Wendy Williams Reveals She’s been Living in a Sober House for Her Past Cocaine Addiction

Wendy Williams said right after she returned from her time off from her show that it can be tough when you’re covering Hot Topics and you’re one of the topics. She’s definitely been quite the hot topic lately with questions about her health, her marriage, the future of her show, the future of her husband and his side chick, but the last thing we expected was to hear about her falling off the wagon. She revealed on the Wendy Williams Show this morning that she’s been living in a sober house as a means of dealing with former cocaine habit. Williams had a cocaine habit in the 80s and 90s on radio, but she’s been lucky in the sense that she’s always been able to get up and go to work everyday. Even on her show, she’s never missed a day for the entire 10 years she’s had her show until recently, and that had to do with her having Graves’ disease.

She told the audience that she does pilates daily after the show and then goes to the sober house. She said the “smelly men” there have become her friends and they have long talks about their addiction. “After I go to the pilates and go to several meetings all around town in the tri-state area,” Wendy explained, “and I see my brothers and sisters caught up in their addiction and looking for help … They don’t know I’m Wendy. They don’t care I’m Wendy. It’s the brothers and sisters caught up in the struggle. It’s been really interesting this ride.” She added, “We talk and read and talk and read and then I get bored with them. Doors locked by 10 p.m. lights out by 10 p.m., so I go to my room and stare at the ceiling and fall asleep to come here and see you. So that is my truth.”

Sober houses are a stopgap between full rehab and sobriety at home where people work on their recovery in an outpatient residential center with others seeking recovery. She has a 24 hour sober coach and says while there she has a strict 10pm “lights out” policy. She shared information about her and her husband’s drug education non-profit, The Hunter Foundation while taping.

Wendy’s been around for a long time and arguably the best at what she does. We’re happy to see her getting help, especially since she said she’s never gone to rehab which is amazing considering how long she’s both used and been sober. Whatever it takes for her to remain on the sober binge, we want to see her continue to do that.
