Trina Reveals She Doesn’t Have a Beef with Nicki Minaj Over Lack of Promoting Their Collab Track ‘BAPS’Javonni Brustow
Trina found herself in the middle of a beef started by the A&R of her label Rockstarr Music who felt like throwing Nicki Minaj under the bus stating Trina’s latest album would do better if Nicki promoted her collab with Trina more. Now the collaboration was the track BAPS which stands for “Bad A** Pretty Sagittarians” which aside from all the drama is quite the hot track. It samples the 2000 Cash Money Millionaires song Project B*tch and although we love seeing these two work together, it reminds us of one of the modern criticisms of Mariah Carey and that is that she at times lets her voice hide beneath the track which happens here. It’s a great track and although the former is clever having Nicki rap right along with the melody, it became monotonous throughout the track.
So why did we mention the song’s production? Because that’s what the conversation should be about and not the behind the scenes drama we seem to hear far too much about. But as for Trina’s A&R Reginald Saunders shifting blame on Nicki, Trina went on Instagram Live to make it clear that under no circumstances was that going to be allowed. And you know why? She said she paid none of the artists featured on her album meaning they appeared for free. While it very well is possible that Nicki could have had an agreement with Trina’s A&R and chose not to fulfill her side of the bargain (which she was not paid for regardless), the public dragging of one of Trina’s friends was unneeded.
It started with Saunders calling Minaj a “deceiver,” “manipulator” and said this was not the first time she “has pulled this stunt.” He also went on to say he “can’t get over how fake people can be for a Lil fame, likes and followers. When everyone tried to warn me I still gave her the benefit of the doubt,” he wrote. “I can’t wait to see how all of this is about to play out because you can’t stop karmas reign, shame on you .. I mostly feel sorry for the #barbs because they have no clue of the deceiver and manipulator their leader is.”
“Right now Trina’s camp is accusing me of not doing enough to push her song ‘Baps,'” Nicki said, in response to Saunders’ comment. “I have my own schedule… it’s not fair that people don’t understand that. I would never have someone from my team disrespect somebody that has been nothing but real to me.”
Trina addressed it all on Instagram Live saying, “There is no beef between me and Nicki Minaj,” she said. “There will be no disrespect for Nicki Minaj or nobody else that’s on my album.” Trina also said that Nicki “did her part” and that “it’s up to me and my team to do our part.” She continued: “I appreciate each and every artist that took the initiative to be a part of this The One album. Rico Love gave his all for me. Every artist that came out to do this album for me, they didn’t charge me. I appreciate that. Anything else that’s going on within that and around that, let me deal with that. Everybody else that’s outside of that, keep your fucking mouth shut… all of y’all that are dragging my name thru the mud, dirtying my name, my face, without me saying a word, you can suck my ass through a straw. And I mean that. I’m a real bitch and I don’t play those games. I don’t play those games at all. Period. Everybody knows that. Keep my name out your mouth and have a good fucking night. The One is out now.”
Trina deserves respect for taking the high road because for one, all of the artists on her album would cost anyone else a large amount of money so for them to appear on her album for free shows they have a lot of respect for her. And she has this respect from not being an internet gangster or trashing everyone’s name in the industry. Nicki is going in a different direction these days with her radio show that seems to be throwing someone else under the bus every week and that’s okay. If that’s what she feels like doing but there’s also no reason to do anything to intentionally put yourself in her firing range since she seems to enjoy bullying people with her new megaphone. We almost feel like Rodney King here. Can’t we all just get along?
