R Kelly’s apartment in Trump Tower in Chicago received a visit from police after an anonymous call had been made stating his girlfriend Azriel Clary and four other women intended to carry out a suicide pact. They showed up at 5:30pm Tuesday but concluded the call was “not a bonafide incident”. A statement from the Chicago police stated, “Police received a call from an out of state anonymous caller stating that people at the location were going to carry out a suicide pact. Police on scene conducting a wellness check and it is not a bonafide incident.”

Kelly’s publicist referred to the incident as “fake,” adding “he’s fine,” referring to Kelly. “He’s getting ready [to] rehearse and sing some songs.” The call came from the National Human Trafficking Hotline, according to TMZ while he was meeting with his legal team for at least two hours prior to the visit. But this might not be that far from the truth as one of his alleged victims, Lizzette Martinez claimed he did have a suicide pact with the women he’s with.

“I was the beginning of the predatory behaviour,” Martinez stated. “I was… I met him after he married Aaliyah. I had it bad but what I hear today is that he’s taking this to a whole other level and I’m so worried about the young women in the house. I mean my anxiety is constantly through the roof because I hear the parents, I hear there’s a plan in place. That he’s put it in place that if something goes down they’re all going to take pills and kill… I just can’t. I just don’t understand it and I’m so worried about them. It just breaks my heart. I’m so angry with him.”

Another corroborating statement about planned suicides come from the parents of his girlfriend Azriel Clary who claim she’s threatened suicide if they attempted to intervene in her relationship with Kelly. They described it as a “monstrous situation,” to Gayle King on CBS This Morning yesterday, claiming she’s trapped. Azriel met R Kelly when she was 17 promising to launch her music career and three days later they met in a hotel room without her parents’ knowledge. Understandably, it infuriated them, leading to them knocking on random hotel doors looking for her.

“What she said was, this was an audition,” Angelo said, recounting what Azriel said to them. “‘Why wouldn’t you trust me? Y’all would think I would put myself in a predicament and not call you all if something wasn’t right?'” She claimed it was her big break and they were messing it up for her. Months later Kelly asked to take their daughter on tour full time. She gave her parents an ultimatum saying ‘If you don’t allow me to go, I will try to take my own life again or I will run away.'” And this came after a suicide attempt she experienced shortly before that when she threatened it right before meeting Kelly following a previous breakup.

“I don’t wanna call her bluff on it because I know she just attempted this previously. But… I’m thinking in my head, ‘She only got three more months, she’s gonna be 18, so she can do what she want,'” Alice said. “And she really carry out this? And then now I’m living with regret for the rest of my life?”

Her father Angelo said that they signed a letter allowing their daughter to live with a woman named Valerie Denise Payton that Kelly claimed was with Sony Records, who turned out to be someone who worked for him. And to clarify Kelly’s statement asking what type of a parent would sell their children to a man, they said they trusted their daughter, that they raised her right and not Kelly.

“I think in retrospect, many of these parents were too trusting,” said Michael Avenatti, who is representing the Clarys. He claimed R. Kelly used his celebrity status to manipulate the families and the women.

As for how he’s been able to get away with it for so long, they said He surrounded himself with a bunch of people, a bunch of yes men and women, that would provide assurance and comfort to these parents relating to the fact that their daughters were going to be safe, that their daughters were gonna be looked after, that all of this was legit, that R. Kelly could be trusted,” Avenatti said.

What her parents want to see as the result of all of this is their daughter to come home. Because Azriel has attempted suicide before with her father coming home and finding her submerged under water, the concern is that much greater about her wellbeing and reports of a suicide pack because she’s actually tried it before.
