Sentencing for Felicity Huffman in the college cheating scandal has commenced and she’s getting 14 days in prison along with $30,000 in fines for paying $15,000 to change her daughter’s SAT scores. That’s a far cry for the flurry of felonies it once looked like she would be charged with. And while she presented the court with a number of letters from friends and colleagues as a testament to her character, one person who likely didn’t offer one would be Ricardo Chavira. He played Carlos Solis on Desperate Housewives, the husband of Eva Longoria’s character. He not only disapproved of her sentence, he referred to it as white privilege and said he experienced 8 years of it. Well… It looks like we need to pull up a chair for this.
“White Privilege. And I saw Eight years worth of it, so I know what I’m talking about,” Chavira wrote on Twitter. Accountability and Responsibility don’t mean shit to these people.” And he continued on saying, “I saw Eight years worth of it working on Housewives. I’ve seen a lifetime of it being a halfbreed, and I’ve struggled w the intricacies of it on a daily basis w all the cultural bias I’ve received on both ends. But whatever. Slap on the wrist. Sorry, but this shit.”
When a follower fired back criticizing him for bringing race into the discussion, he wrote in a now deleted tweet, “But it’s not about race. Tired of stupid people and their stupid arguments. If you haven’t lived it, you really have no say. Stay in your lane.”
His publicist has declined comment on the racial accusations he made. This might make any possibility of a reunion of sort or a movie just a tad bit awkward. Now as for this 8 years of discrimination and people not being held accountable sounds interesting. We need him to do a sit down interview with someone at some point soon to talk about that. We’ll be listening with our pen, err, laptop in hand.
