Donnie McClurkin Hospitalized After Passing Out Driving Totaling His Car

Gospel singer Donnie McClurkin had quite the close call this week when he totaled his SUV after passing out while driving. His car went crashing into the concrete median sending him into the hospital Wednesday morning with stitches on his left thumb, a sprained wrist and hurt knee, known of which he says he remembered.

“I AM ALIVE!!!! Somewhat mangled, stitches on left thumb, sprained wrist, hurt knee, but I’m still here! God and two angels saved my life!,” he wrote on Facebook.  “I am still here by the grace of God!”, he continued. And by the grace of God, indeed. In high school I had a choir director who totaled a new SUV after falling asleep behind the wheel and had a whole slew of major surgeries for years following the accident. So to say he only had stitches on his thumb is remarkable.

He posted a selfie of himself in a hospital bed and spoke about “angels” that pulled him out of the car to safety. He also spoke about two cars that followed him with their caution lights on to keep other drivers away until he drove into the jersey wall. They’re the angels who helped pull him out of the car when he crashed.

“So glad Donnie is doing okay!” radio host Tom Joyner wrote on Facebook as well as well wishes from his label Verity Records and others have been coming in. But just why did the accident happen? He said he overrode doctor’s orders and flew to Kenya to perform this weekend.

While it isn’t clear exactly what his health issues are, this year he had precancerous tissue removed from his vocal chords and honestly, as long as I’ve known of Donnie Mcclurkin he’s had vocal issues off and on from straining his voice. That on top of him being diabetic are two serious issues, and ones you should probably not ignore your doctor’s advice regarding either one. He has however said he’s still performing and was doing so because he felt God really wanted him to do it or else the trouble to have him stopped wouldn’t have happened. Either way, we’ve got our fingers crossed and praying for continued good health for him and better discernment as it relates to him following doctor’s orders.
