In April 1998, the first Divas Live program was recorded featuring top billed stars of the time including Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Gloria Estefan and Shania Twain and Aretha Franklin. The concert series was started as a means to raise funds for VH1’s Save the Music Foundation to keep music education alive in schools. Despite each of the divas bringing their own powerhouse vocals to the stage, none compared to that of Aretha Franklin. After a certain point in the program, everyone else stopped attempting to keep up with her as she made it clear she was the true diva of the night.
