It seems like just yesterday we reported on Cosby actor Geoffrey Owens working in a grocery store bagging food before he’s had all of these acting gigs being thrown at him left and right. It’s actually been 3 weeks and the notion that many of us talk about regarding the black community taking care of its own has definitely manifested itself here. He just got called to join Michael Ealy and Hillary Swank in the Deon Taylor thriller about a married man, played by Michael Ealy who gets tricked into a murder plot by the seductive police detective, Hillary Swank. Oh, and did we mention Mike Colter who played Luke Cage and Damaris Lewis from Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman are in the film as well?

“Geoffrey and Damaris are great talents with cool roles in Fatale that will show off their acting chops working opposite Hilary, Michael and the others,” Taylor stated. “These will be memorable performances, for sure. We’re excited that shooting is underway and have our game plan working to make an amazing movie.”

The lesson learned here again as it relates to the black community is that when you have members of your community that have contributed to your culture such as someone from the Cosby show, when you see them on hard times or not doing as well as you feel they should, instead of mocking them, you should be helping. That’s the reason Tyler Perry and a number of other producers have been contacting him for work. It also has opened up the conversation about how actors take care of themselves. It’s quite common for them to do part time work such as Sherri Shepherd who used to work as a paralegal part time while working. Niecy Nash said she used to do reservations for American Airlines. It’s quite normal and maybe from here on people will learn to stop shaming people for actually working.
