Emma Stone is reportedly in negotiations to make her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of Cabaret. Michelle Williams is currently portraying the character and extended her run in the classic 1966 Kander and Ebb musical through November 9, 2014. Alan Cumming also stars in the play as The Emcee of the Kit Kat Klub, a leering, ghoulish, flamboyant figure.

Sally serves as the main character of the play, who is the flirtatious, intoxicating showgirl who steals the heart of an American writer visiting the seedy Kit Kat Klub in Berlin at the dawn of the 1930s. In 1972, a loosely based musical film was released, which featured icon Liza Minelli as Sally Bowles. The film holds the record for most Academy Award wins in a single year without winning the highest honor, Best Picture, with eight awards. The film won the Academy Award for Best Director for Bob Fosse, Best Actress for Liza Minnelli, Best Supporting Actor for Joel Grey, and five more technical awards. It lost the Best Picture award to The Godfather, which won three awards.

Emma Stone had previously been associated with the production back in 2013, when Roundabout announced the intention of bringing the 1998 Tony-winning production back to Broadway. Stone’s name was attached to play the role of Sally, but film scheduling conflicts prevented her from making her expected Broadway debut. Should the deal work out, Stone would ostensibly begin her run in Cabaret on November 11.
