Legendary actor and comedian Chevy Chase has been accused of making racist comments towards rapper, writer and rapper Donald Glover during his time on the TV show Community. The show’s creator, Dan Harmon, states that he witnessed Chevy directing racist jokes at Donald. Take a look at the statement via theJasmineBRAND below:

Chevy [Chase] was the first to realize how immensely gifted Donald was, and the way he expressed his jealousy was to try to throw Donald off. I remember apologizing to Donald after a particularly rough night of Chevy’s non-P.C. verbiage, and Donald said, ‘I don’t even worry about it.’

Donald confirmed Dan’s comments and added:

I just saw Chevy as fighting time—a true artist has to be O.K. with his reign being over. I can’t help him if he’s thrashing in the water. But I know there’s a human in there somewhere — he’s almost too human.

Chevy Chase caught wind of the statements and simply stated that he was “saddened to hear” that Donald “perceived me in that light.”

Community was created by Dan Harmon and aired on NBC from 2009 to 2014 before moving to Yahoo! for its 6th and final season in 2015.

The series follows an ensemble cast of characters played by Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, Chevy Chase, and Jim Rash at a community college in the fictional town of Greendale, Colorado. It makes heavy use of meta-humor and pop culture references, often parodying film and television clichés and tropes.

Donald Glover played Troy Barnes, a former high school star quarterback who lost his scholarship to a top-tier university when he separated both shoulders doing a keg flip, which he actually did on purpose in order to escape the pressures of his stardom and popularity.
