The biopic about the lives of N.W.A. is really happening, and Universal Pictures announced Wednesday that the film, which is titled Straight Outta Compton, will be released on Friday, August 14, 2015 — a slot originally reserved for the next Bourne film, which has been pushed to 2016.

Also announced was the cast of the group’s three main members as O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jason Mitchell, and Corey Hawkins, will portray Ice Cube, Eazy-E and Dr. Dre respectively. Dr. Dre originally wanted to be portrayed by Michael B. Jordan, but he couldn’t do it due to his upcoming role in the reboot of the Fantasic Four.

Set in the mid-1980s, the film will chronicle how five young men translated their experiences growing up in the hood into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation, and revolutionized music and pop culture forever while igniting a cultural war.

The Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Tomica Woods-Wright (Eazy’s widow) produced film will be directed by Friday and Set It Off director F. Gary Gray.
